Artsmark and Creative Arts

Our schools began their journey in June 2016 when Mrs McLean and Mrs Robertson attended a development day.  Since then the children and staff across our schools have benefited from many enriching opportunities across the Creative Arts, developing new skills and providing experiences which have also inspired and enhanced children's writing.

In our schools 'Creative Arts' encompasses art, music, drama, dance, design and technology and foundation stage creative development.  Of these art, design and technology, dance and foundation stage creative development are addressed as far as possible through our creative curriculum and theme approach to learning; dance is also developed through PE units.  In Reception music and drama are also approached through the thematic approach.  In Key Stages 1 and 2 our music curriculum is based on the North Yorkshire Music Scheme however, links are made with the creative curriculum themes where possible and appropriate.  At both schools drama is mainly explored and developed in Literacy units.  Additionally, both schools also provide children with further opportunities to experience and perform music and drama to wider audiences, through involvement in seasonal shows and concerts.

We organise themed arts based projects, visits by theatre groups, artists and musicians.  We have forged strong links with Richmond School's art, drama, music, design technology and dance departments as well as North Yorkshire's Music Service to enhance our provision for our pupils.  Looking to the future, we are also working alongside colleagues at Richmond CofE Primary School and we provide an Art Club for both Key Stages at our Middleton Tyas setting.
